I think he means 'it' being the air cleaner body, not the snorkel. As far as I know the snorkel should be black.

You are correct, the snorkel is black.  I read it the post to mean that the snorkel should be blue.  Thanks for clarifying the alternate version

Started this project 10 years ago.  Thought I used MCA judging manual for all paint items.

Actually, I just reviewed my research files and found the source of "gold" valve covers and air cleaner:  I used the "K.A. Helm 1995" publication titled "1964 1/2 - 1973 Mustang Detailing Guide"  which says "Air Cleaner  '64 1/2- (260) Orange red, gold or light blue". . ."Valve Covers '64 1/2- (260) Orange red, gold or light blue".

Nevertheless, I am replacing the 1968 valve covers today with the correct covers now painted blue to match the now blue air cleaner.  I am thankful for this forum which is a better source than what I had used!

I think it's sorta right- they just gave you half a thought.

Orange-red   for the U-Code, 6 cylinder

Blue              for the F-Code, 260 V-8

Gold              for the D-Code, 289 V-8

Unfortunately, the publication you are referring to is in error.  64.5 mustang with a 260 would most typically be black with blue valve covers and air cleaner (black snorkel).  There is probably some confusion since other Ford models in earlier years used different colors.

In general much of what is in that old book was incorrect when it was printed. Plenty of owners have purchased it over the years and my suggestions was always to throw it away rather than trying to take the time to go through and catch all of the mistakes.

  This is what I have on my car. (Dearborn, June 64' build) Besides the shock tower decal they are mostly decals on the air cleaner.. I also have one on the passenger side of the air cleaner that describes maintenance of the road draft tube but that doesn't apply to your engine. This is the early Ford blue color described previously. Also note the generator cover in place, correct style radiator cap, plug wires,etc. details, details. That is, if your going more towards the "show" approach. 

I've got a June 8th Dearborn car and the oil sending unit was screwed directly into the side of the engine. The engine was replaced with a Fred Jones rebuild (just figured it out a couple days ago). What is the proper install? With the adapter stalk or straight into the engine? Sems like the wiring is factory on mine and does not appear long enough to make the transition out away from the block.

NPD shows AP-EBL, $10.45, as a medium blue for 260 engines. Other sellers must have it too.

The extension was used with gauges to accommodate the larger sending unit's size. Your car should not use the extension and should use the smaller sending unit for the instrument cluster light.

Ok, the one person who I quoted had a pic of his, and it appears to be the same engine as mine but he has the small sender on the end of an extension stalk.

I just used this paint on my 260 and I have to say this was the best spray can paint I have ever used.  Couldn't have done better with a gun.

Would the EN-46 be the correct color? I need to order a load of stuff from NPD but don't want to order a single can of paint right now. Thinking a local auto parts store might have this.
