K/H proportioning valve end cap removal
« on: November 26, 2013, 12:41:20 AM »
Ok, what's the trick to get these off?  :P  Removed the snap ring, adjuster nut, and adjuster sleeve.  Soaked for a couple days in WD-40, then a couple days in Evaporust.  Looks nice, but end cap won't budge.

Can I tap on the brass piston from the other end and force the cap off?  Don't want to damage anything.  Haven't tried heat.

Thanks,
Rich

Thanks Jim, I've been working from that one.  Unfortunately STEP 3 is just "Remove C-Clip, End Cap and O-Ring."

Having trouble with that "Remove End Cap" part.  Wondering if there's a trick to get it unstuck, or if I can use a wooden dowel & hammer to hit on the brass piston to drive off the cap, etc.  Don't want to damage internals.

Ok, finally got the cap off last night.  Soaked again overnight in WD-40, then tapped a little harder on the piston with the wooden dowel & hammer and it popped off.  The piston core is 1 piece aluminum, not brass, and runs all the way back to the end cap.  Didn't get too aggressive, but did have to get it's attention.  Doesn't seem to have damaged the piston.
