1970 Twister Special front chin spoiler
« on: November 16, 2013, 10:27:22 PM »
I just noticed in a original picture on a Ford Motor Sport /Car Corporation Folder listed on E bay by Perkins restoration that the cars in the photo didn't have a front chin spoiler! I thought they all had chin spoilers?  :o Did the dealers install them later or should I leave it off?

The chin spoiler was in the trunk when the car arrived at the dealership for the dealer to install.

+1 Yep not installed during transport just like hubcaps, exterior rear view mirrors (non-remote) since thief from the open rail cars (along with damage) was possible.

I'm no Twister edition authority, but I think the wing is optional and not standard equipment on those cars.
If you look at various Mustang Marti reports, if a wing is listed, it's as an option.
The wing is a factory install, whereas the chin spoiler that is never made mention of in a Marti report is dealer installed.
I presume the factory did the trunk prop rod install too.

I was there at KCIR when the cars were stored there (helped with pit duties on my b in law 67 GT500 drag car. They were all without dealer prep at the strip. quite a sight. They were stored in the north 40 relative to the pit area.

Bob
I've been trying to gather up pictures and info about the cars so I can have it with my car when displayed! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Jeff

No I didn't have a camera. I had wrench's in my hands  ;D. Not like today when everyone with a cell phone has a camera.  Those cars were all dusty and way out on the other end of the lot anyway ;) . We were too busy running the GT500 to pay much attention. It looked weird (at the time)because they were all the same color . I found out the next week what they were for. Unfortunately KCIR was shut down for good  2 years ago. We used to have a All Ford day at the strip and mini Twister reunion for early and late model versions. A friend of mine owns the Twister trademark and now takes care of the Twister registry. He brought back the late model Twister a few years back . Jeff Yergovich R+A Motorsports 816 246 9094

All 70 Twisters were delivered from the factory to the dealerships with no front spoilers/no magnums/no slats/no rear wings. Its pure myth that these ford dealership options were delivered in those cars at delivery. Its correct that many of those options were installed by the dealership or buyer at the time of sale. I have yet to see a dealers invoice or Marti report from a twister to show any of the above options. All Twisters were identically optioned and yes they all had trimrings/hubcaps and NO power steering. Lu
