Not so factory Front disc brakes
« on: November 16, 2013, 08:05:29 PM »
Hi guys

When I purchased my car, we found the the front rims where locked up agains the caliper.
After removing the front wheels, we found washers were used to space off the wheel.

I called the previous owner whom had the car since 79 and said he didn't do a thing to the car, except buy it and drive it into his barn.
The wheels I assumed were not original to the car, and that I needed to buy some rally 14 x 6 rims.

Well I got mine in today.......... The rims fit fine on the rear, but not on the front

The hole in the center of the rim is 1 1/4" while my front hubs are 1 1/2" Cant even get the rims over the wheel studs.

Looks like someone at some point has changed the front?

Help please!

That describes Granada, or late model rotors.

Sounds that way right.

I understand the granada mod for drum brake cars, but Why would some one change the factory power disc brakes for Granada?

Unfortunately, people did all sorts of crazy things to Mustangs back in the 70s and 80s.  I remember several hot rod magazine articles at the time promoted the Granada brake swap as being better because they were slightly larger.  Maybe the prior owner thought he was improving performance.

No you cannot that I know of unless someone made an adapter plate or something

Please provide more pix of the spindle and brake assembly from different angles so we can help figure it out

Unfortunately the car is in KY and I'm in Florida and its difficult to get photos.

Which angles would you like? I'll try and get them.

Attached is a screen shot of the '1968 mercury cougar, comet, cyclone, montego MUSTANG factory shop manual
I haven't found any disc with a separate hub as a replacement.

Is this exploded drawing correct ?
Mine appears to have the hub and disc separate .

So we split the hub of the spindle yesterday and found rotor
Is built by'century'
The hub has the markings H6 then under it '01102'

I see in the shop manual they group some parts as '1102' may be a coincidence the numbers are similar?

Any thoughts?
