« on: November 13, 2013, 10:53:59 PM »
I need to know whats the difference  between the 1970 competition suspension coil springs and regular Mach 1 coil springs? And where can I find a set of the correct  competition suspension coil springs? Thanks

Don't have a 70 MPC and the later versions only show replacement springs and only lists "Standard" & "Heavy Duty springs".  Of those there are 6 different springs listed and applications are only 302 2V & 351's

Likely the spring rate is higher and the final height different.

Example (hope the MPC listed them years later)

Standard spring with no options on a 351 convertible - just for comparison

Standard = 1520 lbs.,  .600 wire dia and 16 1/4 "
Heavy Duty = 1500 lbs.,  .625 wire dia  and a height of 14 3/4"

On place to find an exact replacement would be from a donor car with the same options and body style from the same time period since it appears that the front springs changed early in the production year

The springs that are in my car have a wire size of .675 best I can tell.
Do you have any listed like that? One of the springs are bad so I'm need to find some replacements. Thanks

Checked the 72 version listing what was available and what Ford was carrying at the time and biggest ones listed for 70 were for 428 all bodies with AC & PS (in some bodies just AC) with 6 1/2" dia wire and only 8 3/4 coils

MPCs after the production date are not my favorite resource - again we have no idea if this is what was used originally
