Are all exhaust hangers the same in 69/70?

Without looking each one up I would think no, they are not. Since one had the transverse muffler (69) and the other (70) had mufflers mounted differently I would not expect them to all be the same.


You also didn't clarify what engine your looking to compare

They are the same for 1969 and 1970 Shelby, but not Mustang.

If you can tell us the application (like Jeff said) I can post photos of the correct hangers and hardware.

I can post side by side pictures of the originals vs reproductions, but they are different.  Are you just trying to match with what you have to determine if its original or not?

The repros have different looking rivits for the rubber straps.
Original straps were made from the sidewalls of tires that failed quality control.
The rear band clamp in Scott's pic is tack welded to the rear hanger for 1970.
Watch out for W vs Z stamped on hangers if you're shopping for a used set.
Cougar and Mustang hangers are not exactly alike.

Quite sure that those parts that is there is original, but I could use a picture or two so I can hunt for nice originals. BTW those on the car has been modified some.

Are they uniqe to 70 428CJ/SCJ or are they the same on 302/351 cars also?

Also looking into if the repro is so different that its worth hunting for originals.

AFAIK, only the upper part of the muffler hangers that fasten to the floorpan is different between Mustang and Cougar, but the tailpipe hangers are the same.

If you need some good hangers for a Division 2 car or driver, the current reproductions are pretty good and will work just fine for you.  However, if you're looking to establish and document all the differences between "similar" hangers, it's involved.  Mustang and Cougar are different.  The hole spacing is different on Cougar for the muffler hangers, and the upper hanger part is different too.  Rear frame hangers are mirror images for Cougar and are not for Mustang.  1970 Mustang uses one DO number and one C8 number because it is common to single exhaust Mustang (rear hanger).  Additionally, single exhaust muffler hangers for Mustang appear the same as 1970 hangers (for one side only), but are not, the hole spacing is different for those too (there are three different hole spacings for different variants).  And 1970 and 1971 muffler hangers are very slightly different, but would probably work on either year because they are so close to being the same.  If you have some photos of ones that you are trying to identify, post them here and I can tell you what they are for.  NOS ones are sometimes available but could cost you $600 - $1,000 for a car set.  Used ones are typically pretty pitted from rust since they were bare steel.  If you just need some good 1970 dual-exhaust hangers, buy the reproductions, they are pretty good, especially for the money. 

And to answer your question above, all 1970 dual exhaust Mustangs used the same hangers.  So Boss 429, Boss 302, all Mach, CJ/SCJ cars all the same hangers.
