37" is what the V8 application uses, somethings not right.
Maybe the brackets on your underdash unit aren't correct
so the unit is not as close to the firewall as it should be
making the hose too short.

I measured the new hose I bought from NPD for my 6 cyl
and its 52", thats another option for you, part number 19867-1

I would try hooking up the 37" hose with the underdash unit loose,
not bolted up and see where it ends up.

The underdash unit is mounted to the holes that were already in the underside of the dash panel.  Maybe I have the wrong brackets and the a/c is being offset toward the rear of the car a little, but it does look normal, and the coin tray appears to be correctly spaced relative to the dash panel too...
I'm going to grab some flare fittings and make a 3" copper extension from the flare on the a/c unit toward the firewall.   It won't be seen, and you'll never know it's there, problem solved

Glad to hear you found a solution.  Your situation got me curious so I did some measurements on my 65 and looks like a 37" hose would work for me.

From compressor fitting to firewall approx 28"
From inside firewall to fitting approx 8"

The back of the AC case is approx 8" to the firewall pad.

Seems like if the case was moved back 2"-4" it would be very close to the shifter handle when in Park?

Yes it would be too close to the shifter, you are correct.
I gassed it up and it's icy cold.
Here is my solution, although i shortened it some more after this pic was taken.

Nice job sweating the fittings, did you do that yourself? I remember my Dearborn '65 Coupe hoses, (14 years ago now), barely reaching the Compressor. By-the-way, 9700 miles...where do you live?

Yeah, I made the adaptor.  The female end began life as a 1/2"male flare - 1/2" BSP male fitting.
I cut the BSP end off in my lathe, bored it to 1/2" to accept the copper tube and silver soldered it into the socket.
