J code Water Pump
« on: November 10, 2013, 10:37:14 AM »
I have two water pumps a C8OE-A and a C8OE-D. It had the -D on it but can not be sure if it was original. Which would be more correct on a 284-J-01 engine? The body build date was 12-02-67.

C8OE-A . Post a picture of the C8OE-D if you would.

The first picture is the D that was on the car but not idea if it is original. The second is another D core I have. The third is a restored D that I have. The last is a poor picture of the A. The Ford logo is different on the second.

I believe there is a distinction in the MPC for the C8-D with the improved design and when it was put into use but can't remember off the top of my head when it wasbut it was later.

Marty, is there a chance that the casting number could be C6OE-A?
I have collected 3 small block water pumps and the casting numbers are: C6OE-A, C8OE-D, and C8AE-J. These are the three water pump castings listed in the Mannel book for 1968.

Marty
All the early J codes I've seen have the C8AE J. I know the C8OE D came later and used into 69 but not sure when. I had an unmolested 4/68 J code motor that had a C8AE J

Would check our Special but could not confirm it was original to the car - too many miles :)

of the 4 waterpumps i have accumilated, i have a C6OE-A and a C8AE-J, the other 2 are generic ones... my car came with a replaced engine, although the C6 waterpump and the original dizzy were in the trunk when i bought the car... i was told a C6 would not be correct, so i sources the C8 pump... i am still in 2 minds about it originally coming with the C6 one...

I read a post today that said that the C8AE-J was AC specific. Has any here hear that. I wonder if it uses a different impeller design? I got lucky today found a C8AE-J that was remanufactured. One more thing crossed of the list.
