69 Dearborn Mach 1 390 Engine ID Label
« on: September 24, 2013, 11:10:51 AM »
Can anyone confirm if the engine id label/sticker is attached to the passenger side head or the driver side valve cover or driver side head?

That is great, thanks for the photo.

Are there any other labels, letters, writing, etc. on the photo that you have?

Passenger head - under where the engine ID sticker is - Single white line that has also been seen on the drivers side head in red on some other FE engines

Drivers side head - front surface - looks to be single digit number likely a builder or inspector identification

Typical OK on the drivers side valve cover front surface this time the boxed version

Thanks you Jeff. If you come across photos of the drivers side head and the valve cover OK I would love to see them to help me with placement, font of stamp, etc.

Thanks you Jeff. If you come across photos of the drivers side head and the valve cover OK I would love to see them to help me with placement, font of stamp, etc.

Haven't done a reproduction of that (the boxed stamp) yet though (your in luck). Do have 7 other versions of the OK valve cover stamp so the font design isn't an issue just the size and spacing to the box. I do have a sample I cut from a valve cover so the size and font don't have to be guessed at. I've done this (cutting fender lips and such) for a number of the inspection stamps. Too easy to get the details off by a little or allot from just a picture or just measurements (that method never works well for me) Just need to look for that chunk of metal.

Jeff:

I'd appreciate anything information that you can provide regarding the stamp.

Thanks once again.

Jeff, for the driver side head digit, is it in white or yellow crayon? would this be similar to what I see on 428 photos (most of those seem to be a yellow S and the 390 would be a digit)?

Looks to be in white. In this case the number "2" You can make out the top part of the number at the top of the picture faintly

There is also a hortizantal line that keeps showing up on the from of FE engines in the 68-69 period. I've seen them on the drivers head under the ID sticker, front of the drivers side valve cover (painted ones) and on the drivers side head (front face) just under the valve cover. Since we see them in multiple locations they all served the same purpose but applied by different workers/inspectors

Here is a shot of the OK in the box applied to the valve cover. Should not make a difference that this engine wasn't ordered with the chrome dress-up option

Hope this helps ... just hope posting them doesn't mean we'll see these on every 65-70 Mustang next year at shows :(
