Topic: Front Brake Lines - 67 Drum

I decided to use new brake lines instead of refinishing my old ones.  I found out that the front lines are very diffrent.  My original ones were routed under the bracket on the frame rail before looping back to the bracket.  The new ones are bent to route over the top of the bracket.  The car has manual drum brakes.  Is this a poor repro or were there diffrent routing?  On a related note the screws that came with the brake line clamps seem to be too small for the holes so I will have to reuse the old ones.  Makes me think that the routing may have varied at some point in 67.

Here are some pictures of mine.  The one with the bracket is on the pass side, other is driver's side. There are 2 pics of driver's side, one showing where the bracket was removed.  Dec 1966 San Jose.  Driver's side rubber grommet had fallen out. Hoses had been replaced in ~2000 with ones from NPD, not NOS.

This is what worries me about getting some reproduction lines that I know will not be correct and bent in a generic fashion.

What you will find is that any reproduction brake/fuel line that is not exact will be close enough for you to work with.

You are personally experiencing the difference between early and late model 67 Mustangs! There were quite a few running changes in 67 and the brake lines were one of them. I wound up buying 4 different line sets to find the closest match for a driver resto that I recently completed.

Is the bracket in the last photo also dipped in black paint for 1968? Was thinking zinc?

If the repop is not stainless, can't the last part with the horseshoe be TWISTED 180deg?  It looks like to me this would get you where you need to go.

I got these from NPD part# 2265-9 back in 2007  its still listed in the catalog for an early 67.  Were yours bent the same way and did you actually find ones that were bent the way my originals were and do you remember from where?

This one has the closest VIN mine is about 4000 higher.  Anyone know if the change over for all the other brake line changes took place around the same time at each of the plants?  I would assume each plant would use up the old stock first but how much would each plant stock I can't imagine it would be more then a months worth.  I ask becouse the 7F01C128538 one actually has a lower consecutive number but is from a diffrent plant.

I don't think so. All the repop lines needed adjustment but I think twisting it 180 degrees would be too much.  Also the 90 needs to be lower as well so that it runs along the bottom of the rail.

Not to be hard-headed, but I don't know about that.  The steel in the brake lines is soft as butter.  Try it.  What have you got to lose?  A $20.00 brake line and shipping?  I bet it will work.
