"Almost" a Mustang--hose clamp question
« on: February 16, 2010, 09:32:02 PM »
I'm working on...something..and it has a few of those old tower style hose clamps with the long screw that goes in and the clamp comes out toward the screw?  The screw broke at the clamp, but the lower 1/2 of the screw is still firmly in place within the clamp and the clamp is TIGHT.  Any ideas on getting this off?  It's for a heater hose to the water pump.

I can post pictures if this doesn't make any sense...

Thanks!

Use a pair of side cutters and cut/twist it off.

I was thinking of taking a long chisel or screw driver and beating on the end of it to knock the rest of the screw sideways and (hopefully) loose, but that probably won't work.  I'll try the hacksaw or a really big set of bolt cutters and see if I can get it.

This is a 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone with a 289-4V.  I am still a tiny bit optimistic that we can make it run...the engine still turns, but my hopes are fading the deeper into this I am getting.
