Oct. 13, 1969 Dearborn shock tower color
« on: August 21, 2013, 11:02:50 PM »
My car has no red oxide that could be found on inside of shock towers or on fender aprons. Is there a time that Dearborn didn't use red oxide on the cars? My vin is 118877 and built Oct. 13, 1969  Dearborn. I already have my slop gray matched but haven't found any red oxide to match up. Pictures would be a great help!

I'm guessing that when your asking about the use or non-use of red oxide your focusing on the application ONLY from the firewall forward not the floor pans (firewall rearward)

If so yes there are a couple of very short periods (can't explain why) it appears where a batch paint was used  as it was in 70 at that plant on the front half of the car.

Don't understand the request. If you believe that your car was build during the no red oxide used period why the need to match the red oxide  ???  Or is it that you believe that your car was a more typical red oxide use car and you just need some pictures of that.

Have you tried looking at the pockets the strut rods sit in, bottom of the front frame rails, bottom of the sway bar mounting brackets..... ?

Want to help (and believe we can) just need some clarification then we'll look at some late Oct or early Nov cars built at Dearborn

My early Dearborn 69 (10/10/68) had a metallic blue paint on the entire underside and the shock tower areas as well. The only red oxide I could find was inside the floor and firewall area. I will attach some photos for you to compare.

Jeff does my car fall in one of those periods that didn't get red oxide from firewall forward?

Looking at the limited number of front wheel wells from that plant and period it appears that that period was one of the time periods when red oxide was not sued for some reason.

My Q-code Mach 1 was built Oct 27th, 1969 at Dearborn and I can find no red oxide on the car forward of the firewall. The underside of the car was painted a sort of olive-drab color, and although this color is not as obvious in the forward areas (mostly because of application of the black paint under the hood, from which you have to look somewhat carefully to distinguish the green), it is present in the areas Jeff mentions. The car is totally dissasembled and nearing paint, so this helped with an issue I had already identified-Thanks!
