Correct Screws ?
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:00:48 PM »
Fast Back interior question.  Some pictures of the screws I used to attached the interior quarter surrounds to the trunk/trap door frame.  Three vertical screws in the center of the trunk photo.  I put these in sometime back and I know they can't be right.  What is the correct attachment method.  Photo ? Thanks,  Brian

Brian, If I remember right the screws on the trim at the trap door are popriveted in place. Maybe someone else can confirm. I will be installing mine next week, and fairly sure I remember drilling the rivets out to remove trim in this area

Agree that they should be pop rivets, believe there was a small rivet size used early in '65 production and then went to a larger size.

You need to invest in a set of Mustang Assembly Manuals. The rivets in question are 380098-S, a 3/16NOM,0.450BODY L,0.375HD,0.188-0.250GRIR,STL. They are different than what was used in 1966. I got my replacements from a local hardware store.

Thanks guys for jogging my memory. Now I remember when I was removing the interior for refreshing thinking what a bad idea rivets were.  Brian
