Rear pumpkin markings - after evapo-rust

Soaked a disassembled rear pumpkin housing in evapo-rust.  Markings can be seen perfectly and great reference item.  The rear was out of a February (04B) '65 San Jose C code coupe.  Date casting of 4M28.

There will definitely be several containers of evapo-rust in the next container I ship home as I haven't been able to locate a supplier here in Australia to date.

Fantastic results, have you done the entire drive-shaft yet??

and could you confirm is the writing in yellow or white, sometime images make paint markings look a different clour

I have a PVC tube for driveshafts.  Think the writing is white.  Combination of markal and paint marker.  Interesting to see how neat the 'OK' was written.

Looks good.

Was there any pretreatment? Not knowing this particular case, what I specifically have in mind is years' worth of crud and grime. As far as I'm concerned the Evapo-Rust will only take care of the rust. I guess any pretreatment would have to be done with delicacy.

Yes, cleaned the grease/dirt off of it in my parts washer before soaking.

I have not tried it yet but have heard that vinegar can be used with similar results. If it works it would be cheap and readily available, just smells bad.

Very interesting markings. Makes me want to run out and throw a bunch of my 65 stuff in a big vat of Evapo-rust.  ;D

I tried vinegar on some bolts and rotors and it seemed to work ok but maybe not as fast? For the price of vinegar it's worth some experimenting.

Vinegar is mainly acetic acid.  Evapo-rust is not acid, it will not harm the metal, it just targets rust and removes it.

i wouldnt like to buy larger units as it seems to have a usable life
I have done a driveshaft in 2.5 to 3 litres in a 100mm UPVC sewer pipe with capped ends
I didnt get a lot more usable life from the product after the driveshaft

It helps to keep the parts in only as long as necessary to remove the rust.  Leaving things in there for multiple days will quickly degenerate the effectiveness of the solution.  It can be a huge time saver when one considers the time that would be required to blast the parts in a cabinet.  I can easily justify $95 for a 5 gallon bucket of evapo-rust.

I use to run the solution through a paper filter right after use - to keep it as clean as possible. This seems to prolong the life span of the solution considerably.  You can triple the price compared to the US when buying Evapo-Rust in this part of the world (Denmark, Europe).  :-\

FYI - $80 at Northern Tool and you can order it online and pick it up at the store no extra charge.  I picked up a 5 Gal. bucket today.

PS - I know this doesn't help our Australian friends - sorry  :(
