1966 Radiator Hoses
« on: July 22, 2013, 09:52:35 PM »
Wanted to see if anyone had pictures of original 289 upper and lower Radiator hoses for a build date of around April 15th 1966 from the Metuchen NJ plant? Trying to find out so I can hopefully locate a set of the correct ones for my unrestored FB.

Thanks

I don't think you will be able to find a set of original hoses that are in any usable shape. The reproduction hoses are very good, marked properly, priced reasonable and available. Try Marti Auto or NPD. I assume you are "down under" which may complicate getting stuff.

Thanks, I have an unrestored car and trying find a set to use for MCA shows. There are some good ones out there, just need to get the right ones.

AU is for Auburn University, but I guess FL could be down under with all the rain we have been getting and minor flooding lol.

As someone who has become a little obsessed over the last few years with regards to 66 NJ cars

Radiator hoses have become a interesting topic with a few of my contacts and friends. Amongst other build sequences

Seems to be a thought that Dearborn and NJ upper and lower hoses where the same but NJ 66 cars used a unique type of clamp. I think the terminology is a band type of clamp over the tower type of clamp you see in a restored example on the show field.

I was able to secure some good NOS examples and will be used in a upcoming project. I do have some photos of these examples but I am a little reluctant to share at present as they are surrounded with other items I don't really wish others to see at the moment..

will look through my files and see if I can others image to share/

You are right on the clamps, luckily I still have the original clamps. Would you consider sending me a pic of the hoses you have through private message or email? I keep getting dinged for the hoses that are on the car at MCA shows so would like to get that corrected.

Thanks

I too am interested in these hoses as my car is a Jan 20, 1966 Metuchen HT.   I have seen Mar 66 Metuchen original examples that used the wire style band clamps rather than the tower type and I am trying to nail down if my Jan car used them too.  Any pics and information are greatly appreciated as always. Thanks. :)

I also have a unrestored NJ March 66 car with the band type of clamps on both hoses and I believe my NJ January 66 example had them as well based on markings from the original lower hose.

I have also spoken with Charles Turner and Bob Perkins over this unique item and there belief is that NJ cars in and around the above mentioned time frame where band style of clamps.  Bob also has said to me these clamps where used on Dearborn cars at some stage through the 66 production year. Though I am yet to have a example of this and even my unrestored late 66 Dearborn coupe which came from Bob Perkins collection has the tower style of clamps on original hoses.

Also from memory all of Bobs other 66 examples in his showroom have the tower style clamps.

Happy to be corrected by others on this matter if they wish to chime in.

regards.

Thanks for the photo, Phill.  This discussion brings up an interesting question.  On cars that used this type of clamp, were tower type clamps used on heater and bypass hoses or were there band clamp type for them as well?

Wire clamps would only have been used on rad hoses.  Heater/by-pass hoses would be tower style.
