1965 Mustang fastback SJ wiper bag bracket
« on: July 21, 2013, 08:31:47 AM »
I have two brackets on the shelf. One bracket has two holes, the second bracket has a third hole near the center and is a little offset. Which one is correct and why? I did not find any markings or stamps.
thank you

I can't speak specifically the wiper bag bracket on a SJ built car but a picture of the bucket on my Jul 1965 Metuchen built car is attached.

Regards,

Ron

Are both the brackets the same length?

Lots of 65's didn't come with washers and had them added by the dealer or later

We see the small and long brackets  but there was likely a couple of providers of the bracket itself.

Unfortunately all the San Jose pictures I have of the bracket have the bag also :(

I vote for the 2 hole bracket.  My 9/65 SJ car has the 2 hole.  Weren't there dimples for the holes on cars w/o the bracket?

The bracket called out on the 65 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual has a part number of B9BA-17651-A, while the 66 Manual calls out C6OB-17651-A. I believe an answer, without backup, is the 65 is the two hole type and the 66 is the three hole version. You may be able to see the additional hole in the bracket as the bag hangs (sags) down.

Thank you Everyone!
Both brackets are approximately 5-1/2" long. I will go with a two hole on my '65.

My 65 GT350 (5S275) as well as two other 65's I know of have the third middle hole in their brackets.
All 3 were built in San Jose from early to late May 65.

The Feb '65 San Jose K convertible I restored had the hole in the middle of the bracket also.

Took some shots of a nice unrestored 65 San Jose fastback (Oct 64)  today (will share more pictures in another thread)

This was the smaller (believe dealer installed kit)  bag and bracket - the tape is unfortunately is covering the center of the bracket
