Non GT A-Code 289 - Factory Single Exhaust
« on: July 20, 2013, 02:37:44 PM »
Hi Guys,

I want to confirm something.  A non-GT A-code 289 should have single exhaust from the factory.  Only a GT or a HiPo car could factory order dual exhaust.  Is that correct?

Regards,

Ron

Would dual exhaust have been optional on a '65 C coded car?  I know it wasn't standard but was it also not optional?

thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Only Factory GTs (A code and K code) and K codes (non GTs) could be factory ordered with dual exhaust.  Of course many dealers had dual exhausts installed for customers but the current body of knowledge suggests that you couldn't order a car with factory duals unless it was a GT or a K code.  So to answer your question directly, dual exhaust would not have been a factory option for a C code car.

Ron

Thanks Ron.  I'm going to order a single exhaust system from either NPD or VA Classic Mustang.  I'll need to get the Y pipe, intermediate pipe, (not sure if I need the resonator), and transverse muffler.

Matt, if your car was built after Nov 15 1964 ( I believe that's the date ) it should have a resonator intermediate pipe.

I would probably need a resonator then as the best I've been able to determine without my original door plate was that mine was assembled around January '65.
