Looking for the correct finish on a 65 alternator spacer
« on: July 15, 2013, 02:26:40 PM »
What is the correct finish for a 65 V8 alternator spacer?  I've seen them natural steel, but I've also seen a brownish, almost bronze, finish.  Does anyone have a picture of an original, un-refinished example?

Like you describe, I have seen the same appearing plating on the glove-box striker for 65-66.  The AMK replacement is probably about the best available.

AMK's spacer is actually plated black cadmium. I've been told by judges that it's natural bare steel. I phosphate mine and rub it lightly with an oiled piece of steel wool. The final look has a light brown tint (sometimes).
