68 Shelby Headlight Clip/spacer
« on: July 12, 2013, 11:25:27 PM »
What is the part the arrow in the pic is pointing to? It is on the headlight assembly and it looks like a mounting spacer.  I think there are 3 per light.  I have seen before but don't know what they are called or what they look like by themselves.

They look like a "J" clip.

I agree, from the view shown in my picture it looks like the back of a J clip, but the headlight bucket to the assembly mount uses a sheet metal screw on my car, and the J clips of that size that I have seen are more typically for bolts.

Any pictures?

Is there any more information on the part such as the AMK number etc. Also, were they a part used on all 68's or was it a production change cut in during the run? I don't have the J clip on my January car and am curious about it and the use.  Thanks for any information.

There are 4 per light used on cars built after about 2/1/68. They are a smaller 5/16" u nut and a spacer olny so no bolt threads through them Pan head sheet metal screws are correct

Thanks for the info Tim.  They kind of look like they were intended move the headlight forward to protrude a bit. Interesting!

Thats exactly what they are for. Somewhere along the way ford engineers decided the headlight looked goofy being recessed that far. I agree
