64 1/2 Exhaust more questions
« on: July 11, 2013, 12:13:55 PM »
Well darn it, I keep finding out more info than I want to.  April built Dearon 260 V8. Does or does not the exhaust system have a resonator in it?

Gotta go paint the underside black now since I found out that little piece of info. Grrrrrrr.............

No resonator on a V8 single exhaust until sometime in Fall of '64, I think it was November when they started putting them on.  There is a note in the MPC.

Dave, I got the same answer from a recent thread:
http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=6781.0
I would've assumed that the system had a resonator given that its printed in restoration books.
There are more and more differences between the early 64-1/2s an 65s...

Yes, it's pretty crazy.  I find myself questioning right or wrong on small details for 64.5 as I am not absolutely sure... for instance, decals and suspension paint marks.

Oh I know. We're changing the underside from a beautiful red oxide to black for the MCA show in August, and now I have to change the resonator.  Sigh. Please don't tell me anymore - I'll just take the points hits.

The attachment was done with some cool panaorama software I got free online.  Its 9 pics stitched together.  All this work will be changed before the show in Indy.  >:(

I'd be tempted to leave that undercarriage alone, unless you have absolute evidence that red-oxide was not used.

Also, you do realize putting an undercarriage pic like that on the forum is like dangling fresh meat to us, right?!?!  ;D :D

Dave, where did you source your exhaust system from?

Dave, were did you get the reference for the red on the ends of the driveshaft and yoke? I typically see blue/green on the yoke and pink on the shaft. No paint on the joints.

Exhaust from NPD.  When you evaporust the driveshaft the orange paint turns pink. It was orange when I degreased it, and was running down the yoke. Did not find blue green, but doesn't mean it wasn't there. - Dave

MGM,
If you look closely at your pic you can see flecks of blue green and orange on the U-joints. I'm wild guessing that because of the oil and grease on the parts the paint didn't stick. Kinda like the black paint on a 69-70 master cylinder cap.  ;D - Dave

Didn't use evaporust on the shaft. It's from my Aug 64 car.

Dom, the exhaust required some trimming to make it fit roperly (no suprise there). Not real great but sounds ok and works for this driver. - Dave
