D-code Transverse Muffler Markings
« on: July 10, 2013, 09:23:58 PM »
I'm looking to find out what markings if any we're stamped on the transverse muffler (and resonator) for a 260/289 single exhaust system used on 64-1/2's.
A pic would be really good. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Dom

There typically is no marking at all on the single exhaust 64-66 V8 mustang mufflers, although the service replacements may have markings.  The only thing we see on originals is an engineering number stamped into the tail-pipe end.

Also a 64.5 wouldn't have had a resonator .

Thanks Mike, are all your cars Dearborn built? Do you have pics of the underneath you could post?
Also interested to see if the underside is painted black instead of red oxide...

I've seen lots of Dearborn cars painted black underneath, or a grayish-black.

All 3 of my cars are Dearborn cars. And unfortunately all are under coated . The August coupes underside is painted blue as can be seen in the below picture.

Mike,

Isn't the tailpipe welded to the muffler originally?

Yes it is. Actually the tail pipe is part of the muffler not just welded on.
