Assembly Line Heater Core--Spring Clamps on Heater Hoses?
« on: July 09, 2013, 11:42:10 PM »
I recently had the heater box back out of my '66 fastback.  For some reason, I had an assembly manual out, and I noticed that in the drawing of the heater core, the hoses were clamped to the heater core with spring clamps instead of the Wittek tower clamps. Which would my car have come with originally, the Wittek tower clamps or the spring clamps pictured below?

I've never had a car with the original heater core, so I wasn't sure what was original, and I definitely didn't want to rely on what was in the assembly manual.   ;)     This is on a Dearborn-built '66, built Dec. 8th, 1965.

The spring clamps:

For reference, my two Oct 65 San Jose Mustangs had tower clamps when I pulled them out for first time rebuilds.

Same.  I've had tons of original heater cores out over the years..  Only even seen the Wittek Clamps used...especially on a Dearborn car.  I've only seen those type clamps used on PCV hose areas originally.

Someone obviously changed yours.

No, I didn't mean to say that mine came with spring clamps.  It was just something I saw in the '66 assembly manual.

LOL - but in the manuals they also have the door tag mounted to the firewall ;)   so IMHO always compare details to what the plants did

And make a note of the deviation in your friendly neighborhood Mustang Assembly manual.
