Battery heat shield

Looking for information from original cars or owners on the battery heat shield.  Did all Mustangs in 67 and 68 come with a heat shield....and were there two versions - either grey or black heat shields?  I assume they came in both colors from maybe two different vendors but wanted to see if anyone else has noticed.

No not all. Always been contraversy on which cars. Some say all BB, others BB/SB with AC. Majority of ones I've seen from NJ cars are gray but black also used

Don't think I've ever found a gray one on a San Jose car thought there have been at least one original 67 with a gray one. Believe that most were black and a small percentage were the grays but that is just my observations.   

Documents list all Big blocks and AC  and I'm sure we can all agree that most got tossed when the battery was replaced - about 4-5 years after the car was sold.

Same part (long or cut down version) through 69. In 70 a different (one year only ) was produced. Only know of one run of 70 reproductions was made by a friend many years ago.  There were two versions of the C7ZZ one (well at least the engineering number) never had one of each side by side to compare.

Thanks....I ve done some reading on previos posts as well. 

Jeff, what documentation are you referring to that lists the heat shield for big block and AC cars exactly?

I seen a grey c7 shield back in the 80s on a unmolested 68 302 with A/C but most I seen on cj original owner cars.  There are 3 versions of c7zb heat shield & all made in 1 mold but trimed off for car model. The long c70b was on 67-69 fairlane -torino & c70b trimmed off top rear corner was on 67-up 428 t-birds & shortened c7ob with c7zb # showing was 67-69 mustang -cougar & changing from grey to black plastic. Then fall 69 the doob was used on 70 & up torinos & mustangs.  In 72 there was a d2ob version LH battery flipped then a d4db same design as doob only shorter  then a d5vf up graded version of the d20b version & so on.  I have yet to document a grey c7zb in a 69 Dearborn cj car only black.  Oddly ford changed from black to grey on the plastic rh luggage strip in late 68 but went from grey to black on heat shields.  Only way to doc. the heat shields is in cars known to be unmolested or original owner cars.

Battery shield observations seem to match mine - was going to reproduce them years ago until I found out that Semo was doing them also - dropped out (though my price point would ahve been less) - no reason to divide an already small pie between two of us

As for luggage protector strips in my observations there were two produces (like many parts) and black ones were typically found all the time (rare to find a gray ones) on San Jose cars all the way through 70 when they stopped production there

......  Oddly ford changed from black to grey on the plastic rh luggage strip in late 68 but went from grey to black on heat shields.  Only way to doc. the heat shields is in cars known to be unmolested or original owner cars.

Jeff  Eddie Richardson KY. made the battery heat shields along with many other parts semo sells.   I will trade you 5 black luggage protectors for 1 grey luggage protector since I need grey for cars I work on.  You can find these on other makes also & cut to length as fastbacks are shorter than coupe & verts.

Anyone have access to a 1967 assembly manual?  Im curious what they say in there for the heat shield....when it was to be used in 67.

Air conditioning on a big block (390 in the assembly manual case).

My Feb 68 version shows all AC Mustang 67-to current date - all engines  and the note "cut to fit"

390 with ac is on the line above for Fairlane but in the same box in this example

Markus asked for 67 assembly manual and in that the 289 does not show the batteryshield detail.

Agreed so in MPC speak that is all engine sized. There are tens of thousands of examples of that in each version

Notice the other applications are for single years not multiple years as in the Mustang line since the T bird only had one engine size its not hard to figure out what engine size they meant there and in the Fairlane example that showed a since engine size but did not differentiate between 4v and 2v

And none for 68

Don't believe that is true -  when the MPC shows a year followed by a slash that means the all years that follow until the printed date on the page ;)

HI, just FYI, my 1968 390 GT w/AC (late Metuchen car) had (still has) a grey C7ZB battery shield. There's some pic's of it on the 428CJ component id website.

I was there the day my 68 coupe had the battery replaced for the first time.  There was no heat shield.  However, there was a screwdriver with about a 12-inch blade stuck under the battery.  My car has a 289 with a/c.
