69 Mach 1 Dash Wiring Harness @ Firewall
« on: June 24, 2013, 04:04:53 PM »
Can anyone post a photo of the dash wiring harness exiting on the engine side of the firewall. I am trying to sort out my harness and I can see the plug with the wires and how it fits but I have a cloth colored wire that looks like it also goes through the firewall in the same location. I am waiting for my wiring diagram in the mail but thought I'd ask in the meantime.

I presume you're talking about the grommet firewall hole with the gauge, wiper, and NSS/BU plugs?  If so, I know of no cloth-covered wire originating in the underdash harness, nor is there room outside of the grommet to pass another wire...

A picture of what wire you're talking about would be most helpful.

Thanks for the response, I took another look and was able to sort it out. You are correct.

Another issue is that from the plug forward (into the engine bay), I have a splice going from a red wire near the rubber grommet and spliced into a green in the wire bundle. Any thoughts on what needs to happen to correct this as I don't see a red wire to reconnect to nor do I see a green coming out of the grommet side that I could splice back to. Not sure if this makes sense but maybe the photo will help?

I hope this helps, it looks like your harness has been worked on by somebody not qualified.  I would recommend Randy at Midlife, he can go go through your harness and getting it proper working order.  He went thru my underdash harness and the tailight harness.  I replaced my headlight feed because the wiring was very brittle, you could here the wires snap when bent.

I think the issue in my photo is the only problem I have. I may have to contact him if there is no other posts.

Thanks

Yes, you are missing the gauge plug: oil, coil, and water temperature on the main harness.  Your green wire is for oil pressure but that isn't the correct color, so your gauge harness is incorrect as well.

Thanks for the feedback, looks like I'll be pulling it out and sending for a rebuild as suggested.
