69 Dearborn Mach 1 Seats
« on: June 23, 2013, 08:15:14 PM »
I need some help with the seats for my Mach 1. Articles that I read state that all Mach 1's have a red stripe on the seat. My car has a gray stripe. I cannot confirm the seats are original to the car. I have included photos of the gray stripe and the part number from the back of the seat. Can anyone provide clarification on this topic? I do not have a build sheet in case that would help clarify.

I know this is slightly off topic, but I assume a car  with a gray stripe seat would still have red inserts in the carpet?

From their appearance, they're clearly original 69 or 70.
As to which, if the seat back release is up high on the side, they're 69.
If it's down low, they're 70.
I can't speak to a non-red carpet insert in 69, but it's grey and only in the front for 70.

I have 2 69 Mach 1's one Dearborn and the other San J. both early cars and both white interior with no stripes. I have a set of 70 seats and they are black with grey inserts. I would say you have a set of 70 seats.

Thanks, it looks like I have 1970 seats based on the release lever.

Thanks, it looks like I have 1970 seats based on the release lever.

I'd venture to say a PO got PO'd at the 69 seats as the reason for the change.
If you decide to change them back to 69, make sure the seats have had the safety repair done.
I can't remember if it was just a TSB, or a full fledged recall, but the 69 seats often broke and fell backwards.
I have a rip down around where the release lever would be on a 70 from this happening to my car.

After reading the article in the link, I decided to run the numbers at Green Sales and buy a pair for $6 each plus shipping.
Much better than eBay at $40 each.
There were over a hundred passenger side, but only around 5 driver side in stock.
I didn't greedy them all up and leave none for others, I don't wanna be that guy.
