Thanks for the info.......I'll probably keep the top cowl and reinstall it. Been doing alot of thinking today.....

In my humble opinion, I believe you have no option other than using the original top... unless it was damaged beyond use during removal.  This is probably one of the most critical structural pieces of the car.  If it isn't put back right, it can throw every piece of sheet metal from the doors forward out of proper alignment.  The advantage you have of using the original is you know it came off your car and it ought to fit back down like it was.  Hopefully, you are able to get it welded back in solid and without too much detection that it has been worked on.

Yes, I have decided to keep and reuse the top cowl. I had thoughts of replacing it due to the rust on the underside and the edge where the spot welds are.
I went back and fitted the top to the bottom and the alignment looks good. Spot welds match up somewhat. I'll post photos later as the repair progresses.
