rear package tray restoration
« on: May 16, 2013, 04:19:57 PM »
I got an original package that's pretty darn nice, a few deeper scratches. Anyone got a good way to repair prior to giving it a fresh coat of paint

If you have a Dearborn car it is probably painted batch paint.

Ed, I think he is asking about  the Cardboard material Tray rather than the metal Support?

I'm all done now, it had some blemishes, painted up nice.the metal bracket was pulled from the car by me, it was rusted, bare metal and gold exterior color from overspray, I primed it and painted it slop gray. Used npd black metallic on package tray and rear seat assembly, turned out real nice, the npd black metallic also matches my dash real good.

For the cardboard tray, should it be semigloss black or the same dark charcoal metallic as the other interior components?

My original was definitely metallic black like the metal dash, along with everything else that is painted. I don't think gauge or clock bezels were the metallic black. There is a paint guideline for interior somewhere, I found it on this site. It is a ford document.try tcpglobal.com

Where was the car assembled? believe that has a bearing on how the support was finished

The black around the gauges is like the hood black out on 69 machs and boss's in that the overspray (paint applied thinly) has a blue tint and builds to black with enough paint
