1965 GT Stripes Installation
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:34:03 PM »
Hi Guys,

I have quick question regarding laying down the GT Stripes on a 1965 GT (Metuchen built).  Should the stripes slightly wrap around the opening of the wheel wells, the back side (interior side) of the door and into the A pillar / quarterpanel door jam area? I've seen cars where the stripes wrap around slightly and also where the stripes are cut off right at the end of an opening and don't wrap around.  Thoughts?

Regards,

Ron

Thanks a bunch,

Does anyone the exact measurements the placement of the top of the stripe and the bottom of the stripe?  It appears that there is about 1/2" of paint from the horizontal line on the door to the top of the stripe and about 1/4" from the base of the door to the bottom edge of the stripe.  Does that sound about right?

Let me know.

The Ford diagram says it should be 1/8" off the bottom edge of the door.  Set that piece first and then do the quarter and fender.

As far as I know, Original Stripes wrap around the opening and are aimed at an upward angle as it wraps around.  Being cut off would be incorrect as far as I know.

The way you have them now looks pretty correct,  Just double check the measurements.

Thanks Charles - could you share that Ford diagram with me?

It's too big to go on the scanner.  There isn't any other info regarding dimensions.

No problem Charles - I appreciate you trying to send it.  I think your prior post will get me what I need namely starting with the door and placing the bottom edge of the stripe 1/8" from the bottom edge of the door and then doing the quarter and fender to match those lines.

I appreciate everyone's input.

This is my 66's profile.  The bottom stripe starts 3/16" up from the bottom of the door.   So that's pretty close to the 1/8" posted previously.  And they do wrap into the fender and doors about another 3/8" or so.
