Topic: Axle Vent

In my stash of pictures I found 2 that show the clip that holds the axle vent hose to the underbody.  They both use different holes.  Which one is correct?

Not sure if it was the same for all plants but my 65 Dearborn car uses the hole as in your first picture but the clamp is in the opposite position with the hose above the bolt.

Ignore the "extra" parts Same vent tube - same workers. Might have been a way the employees were instructed to install them or it might have been left to to the worker but at least we know that at least one worker did it this way

Have 4 or 5 original shots with the same routing - 65 San Jose

That crossed my mind too, but I don't have the extensive knowledge of these cars like you guys do.

My best recollection is that it was in the top hole on my car when I took it apart, but my car was a single exhaust and I'm converting to dual, so that really doesn't help any.  I also tried screwing the bolt into both holes, and wouldn't you know it, it easily threads into both!  So that doesn't do me any good either.

The assembly manual shows it going into the top hole.  But if this is indeed a single vs dual exhaust difference, then that probably doesn't help either.  It's interesting that there are 2 holes on the drivers side and neither on the passenger side.  This might help to indicate that it is a single vs dual issue as there doesn't seem to be anything that would use the other hole.

This is the set up on my car.  Picked up at the dealership 5/29/65 so the actual, San Jose, build date could be a bit earlier.  Brian

It looks consistent to me, looking at all the unrestored pictures, that the single exhaust cars use the top hole and the dual exhaust cars use the bottom hole.

Have pics of the K convertible before disassembly and the clamp was in the upper hole.  Feb '65 San Jose car.  Found an example of a '66 Shelby that had it on the lower.

Interesting detail, but may or may not be tied to dual exhaust.

interesting...is the vent hose marked or textured at all??Who makes the best concourse one?

The original hoses I have seen are smooth with a ribbed line or lines.  Sometimes there is a small paint daub or marking near or under where the clamp attaches.  The repro clamp is a little bigger than original.

What I have seen on 65/66 cars is a silver paint daub that is covered by the clamp when installed.  I'm assuming this was to indicate where to install the clamp on the hose, insuring the hose wasn't too loose or tight when the rear end was installed.

I have seen many times on original 65-69 cars vent hose when taken off cars ,  as well as many of the vent hoses in the kits with yellow markings indicating where to locate the hose into the clamp.
