66 upper control arm rebuild help!
« on: April 25, 2013, 11:00:55 PM »
Rebuilding upper control arms on 66 GT fastback.  Have new Moog shaft kit, but having trouble getting center shaft to move freely in bushings/end caps once together.  Old shaft moved by hand, new one seems like its going to be really tight like its not lining up correctly.  I think everything is getting started straight.  Also, how tight should the bushings/endcaps be in the control arm?

Thanks!

You shouldn't be able to move the shaft by hand, but with the studs installed in the holes on the car, the arm should move with a little effort.

Yes indeed...the old shaft moved because it was worn out.  You want the new shaft to be tight.  If you look at the internals of the old shaft inside the end caps you can probably see the wear.
