'65 Convertible Bracing Bars & Brackets - When were they started??

I have seen that 64.5 (Early '65) cars do not have the Convertible Bracing Bars & Brackets, and I have always know this, but recently, I have been to quite a few shows, and started noticing that lots of regular '65 Production (Alternator cars) do not have them as well.  This includes 6 cylinder and V8's.  Were the Convertible Bracing Bars & Brackets added mid year or Late in the '65 production year??  Apparently a lot of '65 Alternator Convertible cars 6cyl's and V8's did not receive the Convertible Bracing Bars & Brackets either.  I had not previously known this. Anyone know of a cut-off date or TSB date that mentions this change?  Apparently it was a big one.  (Due to Body flex and roll).

Thanks,

Tony K.

TSB 86 :)

Which also adds the underdash brace that connects the bottom of the dash to the pedal support.

TSB is to address issues with convertible shake and vibration. List three fixes

1- adding welds from the front frame rails to the seat platform

2 - adding (welded) washers between the #2crossmember (bolt in one) and the farme

3- Adding the engine compartment braces

4- And the firewall/pedal support to center of the dash brace as Ivygreen65 mentioned above

Any source for the actual TSB or any supplemental diagrams?   I figure that they must be out there somewhere....

Not everything is available on the internet ;)

Why would you be interested in modifications made to cars long after sales??  Just asking :)

No campaign or service recall connected

Got copies would just take a while to post them

Just curious on the history that brought it about and how it originated.

The reason for the braces was due to customer complaints of vibrations from the cowl area at certain speeds.  It's noted in the TSB.

I have seen and read the TSB  S O M E W H E R E, but I didn't save it and couldn't tell you where it was.  I had 5F08C397821 (early 65 convertible with alternator, old window knobs, old console compartment light, Eaton PS pump, and draft tube).  I can't remember if it had the washers on the crossmember or brake pedal brace?

It had the LONG engine bay braces that required the air cleaner snorkle to be cut.  One front mount clip was right-side-up, and one was upside-down.  I forget the scheduled build date but you guys can decode it.

Of course my current 66 convt' has the short type that didn't require snorkle cutting.  It has the brake pedal brace.  It doesn't have washers on the crossmember.  Can some show a picture of that detail please?

Your car would not have the features shown in the TSB article  ... its a fix for cars prior to that date ..... not something done on the line. In addition not all cars went back to the dealership to have the fix.

Re: '65 Convertible Bracing Bars & Brackets - Revisited-Correct Bracket Bolts?

Does anyone know or have pics of the correct bolts that are used in these '65 bracing brackets??

Are they SEMS bolts or are they the bolts with the Star washers????

I already know that the Bracket rods use the bolts with the Star washers.  I am looking for the correct type bolts that are used for the brackets that bolt to the shock towers.

Thanks,

Tony K.

Tony - these brackets?  If  so they don't connect to the shock tower - if not these brackets could you clarify so I can look for you?

If its these the mounting bolts to the inner fender panels vary a little depending on plant and time period - it appears in the examples I have so will need that to get the best look I can

No Jeff.  The brackets that I am referring to are the ones that attach to the round ('65 only) convertible bracing bars that are just forward and out of your above picture-closer to the radiator support.

Thanks,

Tony K.
