Trunk weatherstripping

Saw a reference to a "different" trunk seal for Shelby's/Cal Specials that regular production due to the fiberglass lid.

True?  If so, does anyone sell a close to correct reproduction?

True that its different from fastback but same as any coupe/convertible

Tim I tried a regular steel coupe/ convertible seal on our High Country Special and could not even get the deck lid to close. I was told by another Shelby restorer that a different softer seal was used on the fiberglass. I had them put one on and it shuts perfectly.Marty

Branda does list a separate one for Shelby convertible, so gave it a shot.  No real price difference to non-Shelby and as I have one of those I can compare once it arrives.

Thanks for the input.

On a semi-realted topic has anyone used Steele brand weatherstripping?  Have heard good things, that it is closer to OEM in the feel and hardness, and based on some of the other repros I have, specifically convertible top frame weatherstripping, the repros are far harder than even ancient OEM stuff I have.  Hoping the Steele may be a bit closer...

The car is a 68 California Special, build date of 03 April, 68 at the SJ plant.  To put the trunk lid back on after painting,  I purchased the weather strip listed for Shelby conv. and Cal.Spec.  from Branda.  It turned out to be a 69 Shelby trunk weatherstrip made by Carpenter according to the printed label.  It is of the trapezoidal shape such as discussed recently in another thread.  Did they send the right part?  If so, which part gets glued to the trunk lid - the narrow or the wide edge of the W/S?   Would anyone be able to check their original Shelby or California Special trunk area and confirm the shape of the weatherstrip that Ford used when the cars were built?  Lot of confusion on this part.  Thanks

Refer to reply #3 . It is 68 convertible weatherstrip. Original is best but hard to find . The 69 Shelby weatherstrip is correct for that year only.It can be used successfully on other years but not historically correct. The different Shelby restorer mentioned I have a very strong suspicion uses the Carpenter brand of 68 convertible weatherstrip because it is softer like the original. That is the big problem with some repro brands ,they are  harder foam weatherstrip which makes it difficult to shut .

We discovered this on the last GT CS, we ordered a seal from Branda it would work but was a incorrect shape. The Branda ad is misleading it lists 68-70 convertible and adds MCA approved. The one used successfully on the 68 HCS was the correct shape and when you cut it has noticeably more air holes making it softer. I think it may have been a Carpenter
