67 San Jose built Fastback.  Coil spring covers that bolt to back side of shock tower with 6 bolts each.  Do the bolt heads or the nuts go on the inside of the engine compartment where they are seen when the hood is open?  Closely checked pics of cars in the Corcoran book and see them both ways.

For 67 San Jose production the bolt heads are seen on the inside of the engine compartment holding the coil spring covers. Other plants and other years in some cases varied.

Usually is a footprint left by the original bolts to help determine orientation.

The direction of those bolts is often a quick clue for me as to where the car was assembled as you approach a complete car or stripped hull.

Have seen tens of thousands of San Jose cars and they have always (unless they were restored bu someone in the Eastern US ;)  been bolts out - nuts in


IMHO don't generally trust restored cars, magazine cars or most posted on the web ;)

+ 1 All though we do not deduct for either direction as long as they are all the same direction.

In SAAC and Mid America we do :)  On those years when there are different hardware

Just to make sure.  That is bolts out(bolt heads on the outside of the engine compartment), nuts in(nuts on the inside of the engine compartment seen when the hood is open)?

Vintage photos of 67 San Jose production . Bolts seen when hood open. These are early production but orientation is the same throughout 67 production(at San Jose).
