68 main dash wiring harness install
« on: March 30, 2013, 01:25:03 AM »
'68 FAM shows a clip on the main harness I don't seem to have on any of my 4 '68's.  Noted in red below , I see no way to wrap the main harness as shown, or a spot to clip as shown...

Just a theoritical idea that never got inplemented or mine have lost them?  If used anyone got a photo, as I can't interpret the pic to see how this would work.  Way hard to twist the main loom ans shown, and no nearby mount that seems likely...??

If you look at the date on that particular page that might explain when it was used (if it was a running change)

Will look through what I've got as far as 68 pictures for an open dash

Actually, I lied.... I went back over the cars photos and parts and did find a long strap that "could" be it.  About 1/2" wide and 6-7" long, folded pretty much in half.  Rubber dipped cover like the J bracket that hold the harness to the dash support behind the cluster.

It connects to the stud at the front of the fresh air vent that is not used by the vent housing.  Odd location as it pulls the whole harness far forward and makes it diffucult to connect the instrument cluster.  It was in a April build 289/C4 Cal Special... nothing like it in any of the big blocks, so not sure if that is relevant, which would not make much sense if it was different for them as the harness and dash are the same...

This is the part...

Not on any of the early cars, so maybe as noted a running change.

Nope. Pretty much a one owner GT/CS that looked pretty stock under the dash.  No AC and none on the Marti.

Main dash harness wiring routing, revisited
« Reply #6 on: April 20, 2013, 11:56:56 PM »
ADMIN NOTE: The following two posts were posted in a new thread and then merged with the earlier one to keep information and discussions together.

I posted this a while ago.

No conclusive answer.

I was going thru the parts from a 68 dearborn car, and found it had the same part under the dash attached to the front stud, unused by the vent assembly "hat".  I did not disassemble that part of the car.

One Dearborn, one San Jose car.  Anyone else found this bracket (which appears to also be the one used to support AC ducts?) in a '68 non-AC car at this location?  Two cars, two plants, seems an odd concidence...
