fuel line clamps for San Jose April 67

For a 67 289 2bbl auto built in San Jose in April 67, what should the fuel line clamps be at the junction of the two lines near where your left foot would be?

How about the ones going to the fuel pump? Ones to the carb fuel filter?

They should be phosphate spring clamps with rounded ears not square or crimp band clamps. The band clamps were used from the tank to the pump and the spring clamps were used at the carb.

Jeff are you saying that they were all spring clamps or ones built around that April date?

I believe spring clamps 65-73 era were square ear type?

+1 Don't think the picture is clear enough to see clearly the ends of the clamps. Of course could post a few more ;)

Looks like I will need to change some clamps out, as I have the wrong ones at the torque box.

 This 67 still has the original fuel clamps at the tank, and they are the crimped style. So this mean Ford originally used different fuel clamps styles at different locations of the fuel line?

What clamps should it have on the fuel line under the hood? Crimped or band style?

I was under the impression all the band style clamps for the older Mustangs were the square tabs and they changed to the rounded tab style to help prevent cut flesh.

I want to make sure I get this correct.

What type of clamp should be at the pump?

What type of clamp at the carb?


Does anyone have a source for 5/16" square tab spring clamps for the torque box connection?

Same both locations - spring band and dark ;)




Source - wrecking yard, donor cars. So will try and file the rounded versions down to square but if you look at them from the side the ends can appear (surprise you removed metal during the process) short ;)

Should the fuel hose have "GAS" lettering on it?

I swore I saw this answer somewhere but cannot find it.
What clamp style is used on the hard line side of the rubber fuel line where the steel line enters the engine compartment?

I assume from Jeff's comment that the fuel pump side of the rubber line would be the spring clamp.

Although my car is a 289K and a month earlier I would have thought that the type of clamps on the rubber line would be the same as in this thread.

5/16 spring clamp with square corners and olive drab in finish. AMK used to sell them although I am not sure if they are square or rounded corners. The rounded corners is the standard now for safety reasons.

Just another picture of the location of the clamps discussed here. Fixed the old PhotoBucket link above





Here are some square/sharp ended clamps Bob described above. In 68 they changed to a zinc or cad finished and remained like that for a few years. Can also be found in red dye in later years also. One supplier markings have been found surely there were a couple. Ones shown have been found on back east built cars
