69/70 staggered shock reinforcement plate and hole welded closed
« on: February 25, 2013, 03:24:26 PM »
When did they apply the reinforcement plate and weld the unused shock hole closed on staggered shock cars ?
I believe they filled the hole on original cars with caulking before the modification was made, is that correct ?
Was this done because of cracking ?
Was it a service modification ?
Was it specific to plants ?

Are you referring to the plug/cover over the unused hole?

Have seen both - My 69 Boss has the cover (looks like the Boss 9 modification) believe it was an early thing dropped later - April build

My Jan 69 San Jose car had no cover - just an open hole

I believe they filled the hole on original cars with caulking before the modification was made, is that correct ?

I've never seen that - nor do my staggered shock cars have that (Dearborn and SJ  69's)

Glad to hear that Jeff...my May 21 San Jose 69 mach 1 also has the open hole.  I thought for sure something was lost.  Odd that it is just left open though...

Likely saved Ford a few cents - which adds up over time

The picture (if its the same one I have) is of a April 70 Dearborn example. Looking at the pictures I have I found the hole plug and extra supports on 70 NJ and Dearborn examples. Don't have any clear 70 San Jose examples to compare. 69 seems different as I can find examples from Dearborn with and without (all staggered cars) and have not found a 69 San Jose car yet with either.

Just reporting ;)
