hood catch bracket
« on: February 09, 2013, 12:08:23 PM »
I realize there is a slight difference between a 69 and a 70 hood catch bracket that bolts to the hood. I have a 69 shaker hood with a 69 catch, my car is a 70. Whats the reason for the change and is there any real difference, like angle or some geometry issues. It seems to work fine, but to avoid later problems, anyone have any experiences with this. I do need to cut out the hood twist lock holes, but i am hesitant right now.

There is a difference between the 69 and 70 hood catch.  I have these two as references...the one on the left is for a 69 and typically phosphate finish and the one on the right is for a 70 and typically a dichromate finish.  Cant say why they are different since you can interchange them and everything works and lines up still.
The hood latches are different between 69 and 70 as well.

Yes they are different too but it can all be mixed and matched and still work.  Its not correct but unless you know what your looking for you cant see the difference.

I would like to know the latch difference too please, and I sure could use a 69 catch if you have more of them!
I have an NOS latch assy and remember the date code being on the back so it can't be seen when installed to the rad support.
I can't remember the date code though, and will have to try and find it to see if it's a 70, and somehow different from the original on my 69.

I got the 69, installed on 69 hood, installed on my car, works for now. Gladly trade for a usable 70. I would love to see what the difference is from the 69 to 70 latch assy. Anyone got a pic. Gonna try to find a hood, original or reproduction. Of course the repro will be easier,NPD is out of stock right now, the most expensive so far

I will post some pictures tomorrow.  I have plenty of both examples - just need to take the pictures.

These pictures are comparing the 69 and 70 hood latch machanisms.  What I typically see in 1969 is on the right and 1970 on the left.  One of the biggest differences is with the date codes stamped on one of the fingers.  The date codes are visible on most of the 70 versions I see on the front, while the 69 versions have the date codes stamped on the back of the body.  Also if you look at the "fingers" of the hood latch the middle one usually does not have a raised ridge on the 70 versions.

The other difference between 69 and 70 is the release arm.  There is a slight difference in the shape but most noticeable is the ribbed stamping.  Again the 69 version is on the right.

As a '69 owner, I hope you don't cut that '69 hood for twist locks since only the 1970 style hood was serviced and correct '69 hoods are hard to find.

I just got the boss' approval to order the ford tooling repro hood, so the hood is safe. I really didnt want to cut it up, have had the template kit for a couple years now. If the tells you i feel the same way rockhouse. Parts are so expensive i was gonna though. Now, someone point me to the best hood. besides a spendy NOS or original.
