67 San Jose Decal locations - Purchased "Kit"
« on: February 07, 2013, 01:25:23 AM »
I'm new to this forum.  I just got a 14 piece decal kit from CJ Pony.  I figured that this was the best place to find out the correct place to put the stickers.  The car is a 67 sport sprint I6 200 three speed manual, manual drum, manual steering, no A/C.  The kit came with...

-Battery test OK decal (DEC194)
-Service specification decal (DEC052)
-Autolite spark plug air cleaner decal (DEC160)
-Oil filler cap decal (DEC164)
-Coil decal (DEC224)
-Glove box tire pressure decal (DEC282)
-Jacking instructions decal (DEC044)
-Rear gravel pan tie-down decal (DEC284)
-Voltage regulator decal (DEC348)
-Power disc brake master cylinder decal (DEC332)
-Jack base decal (DEC036)
-Air cleaner service instructions decal (DEC149)
-Air cleaner "Front" decal (DEC150)
-Air cleaner part number decal (DEC261)
-sport sprint decal

Thanks you!

The standard question for someone's first post of this nature is this - what assembly plant and what build date?  These things don't matter in some cases, but in others, such as this, they do.  I recommend editing your profile so that it is included in every post.  That way you don't have to remember.

No problem.  Thanks for making me look smarter than I am (for a moment anywa), by being able to reply to your post...albeit without answering your question.  I have to leave this answer to those that have expertise on this topic.  I will be watching intently, because I hope to be to the point on my restoration of doing finishing touches like putting stickers on.

First welcome  to the site

Since we're a concours site the focus is on what is original not just what will work. For that reason many of the decals you received in these "kits" will not be used and not like originals

Guessing this is a non- thermactor car - correct?

-Battery test OK decal (DEC194) - Not like original in material or printing - don't use IMHO. Originally attached above (normally) above the starter relay on the inner fender panel, passenger side in front of shock tower

-Service specification decal (DEC052) - Drivers side shock tower. May be at the location in the picture or approx 6 inches below

-Autolite spark plug air cleaner decal (DEC160) - Never seen one on an original engine - your size, plant and year. though if showing at MCA they will be looking for it so if you choose, top of air cleaner at the rear opposite the Sport Sprint

-Oil filler cap decal (DEC164) - Never seen one on an original engine - your size, plant and year

-Coil decal (DEC224) - Don't use - originally this was an ink or paint stamped detail. Get yours stamped IMHO

-Glove box tire pressure decal (DEC282)  - Drivers side of the glove box liner so that it can be read by the passenger

-Jacking instructions decal (DEC044) - Bottom side of trunk lid - One of two locations I would choose as shown in the picture based on your cars details

-Rear gravel pan tie-down decal (DEC284) - Under the rear license plate

-Voltage regulator decal (DEC348) - Don't use - originally this was an ink or paint stamped detail. Get yours stamped IMHO

-Power disc brake master cylinder decal (DEC332) - Don't use, you have manual brakes

-Jack base decal (DEC036) - one the lower arm of the jack

-Air cleaner service instructions decal (DEC149) - Driver side of the air cleaner (side of air cleaner )

-Air cleaner "Front" decal (DEC150) - Never seen one used, your year, engine and plant

-Air cleaner part number decal (DEC261)- Never seen one used, your year, engine and plant

-sport sprint decal - Top of air cleaner at front

Missing from the kit is the engine ID sticker (not sure if anyone is currently making those commercially)

Hope this helps

Thanks. You want the VIN or just the build date?

Either will work since at best we'll be within a two month spread within that production period

Thanks - picture added above

Thanks
Which ones did you just add?  And what is the best way to paint the engine bay? I just painted  it with black spray paint and ran out halfway through. The second can I used came out more grey so it looks really dumb. I need to redo it so what should I use?

Thanks

Added the trunk jack picture.

To stay on thread (we like to keep things neat here ;)  why don't you start a new thread in the paint section and I'm sure you'll get allot of suggestions from others that have faced the same issues

Not commercially - Some one use to make the plastic reproduction ones in the correct color years ago but believe they stopped. You kind of need that since the original paper style will not hold up to the elements - though those can be had - just don't last.
