San Jose 68 390 GT Top End

   Would like to know what are the correct parts for this car.  Stamped/cast engineering or part numbers.    Curious about a correct air cleaner, carb and intake.  The Marti report info is:  8R02S149810, 63B, Y5, 6A, 12C , 71, E and S.  With a lot of extras but important here would be: GT Equipment Group.  Ordered 2/21/68.  Actually Built 3/18/68.   
     I have seen some of these air cleaner assemblies with no snorkel but wire mesh instead ?   A best guess for the carb and date ?  Same info for the intake ? 
     This is a friend's project and is currently mostly assembled with the usual 44 years worth of previous owner mods.  Will be restoring and would like to be buying the correct parts the first time ?  Smog stuff will probably not be going back on.  Thanks,  Brian

Though you have seen them - doesn't make it correct :) Yours would have had a regular snorkel mesh was used in 67 on certain applications


A best guess for the carb and date ? 

What Trans does your car have?

C8OF-C - with manual trans
C8OF-D - with auto
Carb dates are difficult since Holley may have built them in large batches - currently my spread is typically 4 -5 months for San Jose cars.  So possibly Nov -Dec 66


Same info for the intake ? 

Often one to three months prior to the block casting date

Thank you Jeff.  I really like the look of the mesh but I guess that's not going to happen.  ' the ford show' posted some pics of the 68 air cleaner last year but I can't view them, red x'ed.  Pictures of a correct base, top and snorkle ? 
     Four speed trans and already have a C8OF-C carb. dated 791.  1967 Sept. first week.  Close enough ?  Intake manifold cast engineering number ?  Just to make sure one to three months prior to casting or assembly date ?  Thanks again,  Brian

Believe manifold would be C8AE with big S

Some pictures - first on is an X code but shows the snorkel












Four speed trans and already have a C8OF-C carb. dated 791.  1967 Sept. first week.  Close enough ? 

Little distant but I would not deduct currently for that date - might want to keep an eye open for a closer one (date) over the long term ;)

Note the different snorkels in the pics.  My understanding is the third is correct for a 68 S code. Kicks backwards with a shorter dogleg, not forward as the others.

Thanks for the note on the snorkel.  I was hoping this would be an easy one.  Intake, carb and air cleaner should not be that tough right ?  I think that snorkel is being reborn as a 69 CJ snorkel and of course is enjoying a new popularity.  The carb was gotten at a reasonable cost.  The intakes have a price I find hard to fathom.  Gee, now I feel better.  Brian
