Another thing to check would be the tapered stud on the tie rod,
compare the outer ones that go into the spindle to the inners, they
should be the same diameter, I think you will find the C6OA spindles
have a larger tie rod end hole so maybe they swapped out the outer
tie rod ends along with the spindles.

Ok, so there will be slack in the new tie rod end where it goes into the spindle.  I will check this tomorrow...

(Old tie rod ends have been thrown away I think...couldn't find them.)

My guess is that you will find slack in them, if thats the case then I would say that
you need to get another set of the correct spindles with backing plates, hubs, drums etc.

Charles had mentioned that he may have some, if he doesn't let me know I have them.

Ok, here is the picture.  Pretty obvious that the spindle is not the correct one for the 6 cylinder tie rod end.  You will notice the threads are completely through the spindle and still loose.

That seems to verify it. The hub/bearings you have which fit on this spindle should be
too big for the correct 65/66 6 cyl spindle, not sure about the backing plate but
thinking its different as well.

If anyone has a set of these (full set of spindles, hubs, etc.), please let me know and what you would take for them and what shipping would be.  I will check the classifieds to see if any are on there.  Again thanks for all the contributions, sure helps to have knowledgeable people helping along the way.

I have a complete set of spindles, hubs, and brakes I took off of a driveable '65 coupe when I converted it to a V8.
Too much junk, too little time.

Guess I didn't send a PM fast enough.  Wish I would have known you were going to look elsewhere, would have saved me the time of looking for them.

My apologies, didn't mean to put anyone out...

If someone can explain who gets the 1st opportunity to sell parts, I would be grateful...

It doesn't really matter to me, I don't sell parts for a living, this is just extra stuff that I have accumulated.  If you read back through this thread, you will see that I offered that I might have what you need and C5ZZ said to contact him if that didn't work out.  There isn't any rule about who gets 1st opportunity to sell, but a little common courtesy is appreciated.
