Topic: 64 1/2 carpet

I ordered new carpet for my 64 1/2 mustang since I'm updating the interior. The carpet arrived without the toe pad which is correct but it extended up the sides of the door to the sill plate, which is incorrect. The supplier is ACC which provides carpet for most suppliers.

Has anyone had this issue with 64 1/2 carpet?

This is for a June 64 convertible. I confirmed with NPD that the carpet order was for 64 1/2 convertible, no toe pad and carpet to the door but not up to the sill. They did not know why the carpet ran wider. I though the convertible was configured with vinyl on the side of the door below the sill plate, about two inches under the carpet?

Nope, convertible goes up over the rocker panel no matter if it's a 64.5 or not.  You got the correct carpet.

No problem, good thing you didn't cut the carpet.

The serge style carpet was used pretty much all the way through the 1964 calendar year.  Have examples of fastbacks and coupes with January scheduled build dates with the early-style carpet.

So would the Fastback carpet stop at the rocker panel, and have vinyl up the rockers under the sill plate?  I have a 10/9/64 SJ Fastback.

Yes, fastback carpet would be the same as a coupe at that time period, except the rear section would have the 'L' cutout at the base of the rear qtr trim.  The Jan '65 K fastback I had originally had the serge carpet also.  Have examples of coupes/fastbacks built around Feb '65 with the serge carpet.

All 64 1/2 coupes would have the serge carpet.  Convertibles wrap over the rocker like 65-66.  The difference in the convertible carpet is there wasn't a toe-pad.  The serge carpet in coupes/fastback also usually did not have a toe pad.

Another question - what color would the vinyl that runs up the rockers under the sill plates be for a white / black early 65 Fastback interior?  Would it match the black carpet or white kick panels?

It would match the kick panel color, in this case white.

Thanks Charles.  Anyone know of a source for these items?  I haven't seen any repros.  Guess I'll be hunting originals.

The Mustang parts places like Va Mustang or NPD should sell vinyl in the right color.  Otherwise, you could go to a local trim shop and have them find something close.
