69 glue in glass - bracket locations needed

I am restoring a 69 Grande that had all of its windows broken out.  After cleaning the broken shards out of the brackets and buying new glass, I am not sure where exactly the brackets should be glued at.   I did find one document on the web regarding the front window, but nothing for the rear coupe windows.  And with 69 and 70 coupe quarter glass different widths I want to make sure I get the correct info, and I am not sure if coupe/fastback glass placement is different as they are different windows.  Ugh...

Also I have cleaned out all the glass and the rubber inside the channels allow the glass to fit tight, but do I need to clean this out as well before regluing them back in?  70 bolt in is not in the cards for this car....

I believe those measurements will work for you. Remember there is allot of room given the way these set and are attached to the car.

As far as how much you need to remove of the old adhesive it IMHO depends on what your planning to use as a new adhesive. The old/original stuff may work if its a thin set product and you rough up the old stuff to provide something to bite to. If thick set, remove allot but if the old stuff is still holding still create a rough surface for the new stuff to attach to since it should work better than bare steel

Just my way of doing it

Also only glue one track at the time and support the window upright while the adhesive dried/set

We had to make spacers to hold the track away from the window since we removed allot of the old product and did not want it to strike the beltline weatherstrip when fully raised.

ahhh...so I must glue the brackets to the glass with the doors on the car and window guts installed?  I have empty doors which are off due to rebuilding the hinges.  I dont plan on installing the doors on the car until spring.

Any idea on the rear windows?  I just need the measurement  or a photo of an original window.   Thanks Jeff!

Sorry - for the confusion - no. I've installed the brackets on the workbench or in the shop. Just have to figure out how to hold everything in place. If installed with the window on it side the bracket will tend to move down with gravity leaving the adhesive on one side thinner than the other and with the curve in the glass - likely at an angle.

Lots of positioning, shimming and such to get everything in the middle when we did it



Any idea on the rear windows?  I just need the measurement  or a photo of an original window. 


No coupes handy but will look - hopefully someone else will have something to help

Great...thanks Jeff!  I was a little confused if the glass should be centered in the mount and not angled in any way....I assume its kept centered and verticle as the glass itself is tapered in towards the car.

Appreciate the help....once I have the coupe info I will tackle all of them.  PITA when all the glass is gone and no reference to use.

Kind of a hard thing to measure but the angle on the backside of the glass lines up almost exactly with the angle of the back of the frame. Then if you hold a straight edge on the front vertical edge of the glass and measure back 90 degrees to the edge of front of fram = 2 "

You haven't even started the PITA part of this job, wait until you have all the glass installed and to try to get everything to align, seal up, and able to close the door easy. This early form of frameless glue in glass was a disaster for FORD from new. good luck to you!

Sorry, I don't mean to scare you but they are a PITA however they can be made close to right, just don't get into any hurry as it can be very frustrating especially when your trying to break in all the new weatherstrips. In my experience I have found the N.O.S roof rail weatherstrips work better than the repop however the repop weatherstrips for the door seal work better than N.O.S. This all ties together so make sure you have your proper door alignment before starting on the glass fit. CHRIS......
