Topic: 68 J code Fuel Pump

My dad was pretty good about going to the local Ford dealer back in the day to get all the parts for the 68.  Is this by chance a correct fuel pump for a 68 J code?  I'm guessing it's just an aftermarket part.

Correct just a after market pump.

68 J code pumps where made in US Carter plant which is why they say carter instead of CARbureTOR. In 69 they went back to Carter Canada so the cast went back to CARbureTOR

Tim, whats the date code on that pump? Fuel pump off the J-Code I just did says Carter with USA on a line below it. Date 31H7A. I'm just wondering about the different Carter logo.

Edit: I also have a 17D9A that says (Carter) not the CARbureTER logo so maybe the logo switch was later 69? what do you think?

Andrew, read my line under the picture. Canadian Carter plant didnt change logo to Carter till after 69. US Carter plant changed earlier. Thats why 68 pumps say Carter. Canada plant supplied in 69

I'm a little confused Tim. I did read the line under the pic and I assumed you were saying that 69 pumps should be Canada pumps with CARbureTER logo but my 17D9A April 17, 1969 pump just says (CARTER). Are you saying that 69 pumps could have been Canada Or USA pumps.. The reason I joined in was because of my 68 J-Code pump that says (CARTER)

Yes. Obviously both plants operated in 68 and 69. You also have to bear in mind my data base is mostly Shelbys so it tends to be plant specific which I would say is what the 69s are mostly. I did however do quite an exhaustive check of all 3 plants on the 68 pumps. It came about when people were taking points off for Carter pumps on 68s that didnt say CARbureTOR. I probably checked about 20-30 known original pumps and I never found one that didnt say CARTER USA. Not saying they didnt have the other one but just havent seen one yet. I believe right now there is an April 68 CARbureTOR pump on Ebay but I dont know what car/plant it came from. When we get to 69 its a whole different story. I have seen 69 pumps that say CARTER like your however the majority I've seen say CARbureTOR.
I have also talked to Fred Ballard about this in the past and he confirmed his findings are similar

For those reading: This is specifically about Carter 4567 pumps only. Other engines/pumps may use different markings for the years mentioned

is there a difference between the 289 and 302 fuel pumps, or are they exchangeable?

I am attaching some pic of mine ('68 SJ 289) it is the original Carter pump

Why do you think that? I do not detect anything to indicate that it has been off the engine.

Is there supplyer for the white gaskets? Or do you make them?
