65 fastback 6 cyl ,new member from Italy
« on: December 10, 2012, 04:38:47 AM »
Hi
i'm new to the forum . i have decided to subscribe here ( tons of Mustangs forums out there) because i recently bought the 65 fastback you see in pics that being mostly original , like many 6 cyl cars i suppose, i think deserves to be kept original instead than trying to achieve a " performance car status"

i will give more infos later, but just one question... how many 65 fastback 6 cylinder have been made? not many i suppose...

the wheels are vintage American Racing Libre ( made mainly for european 4 lugs wheels cars)

Aldo

Hi Aldo,

Welcome to the forum. Nice car!

There are no really good production records, but I can can give you some ideas.
Of total 1965 production of 559,451, 35.6% were 6-cylinders and 64.4% were V-8 - or about 198,900 and 360,600, respectively.

And there were 71,303 63A fastbacks produced. If the ratio of 6-cylinder engines is the same for the fastbacks as it was for entire production (which this might not necessarily be true), then about 25,383 were 6-cylinder fastbacks.

Very nice, Aldo!    Will you be changing the wheels and tires for a more original look?

Welcome Aldo, and those wheels are sharp. Don't swap them for anything else. Over here, a four lug "mag" is rare. And if you don't mind, how did you get the car?

i'm keeping the wheels because they are vintage, not usual and lighter than oem steel wheels ( that i don't like very much except the wire wheels)
the car comes from New York ( but i bought it from a german dealer) . no big rust issues and seems quite a low mileage car.
unfortunately i'm forced to replace the bumpers...but i expect to keep all the other parts of the car. I think i will not even super detail the engine bay, i will just clean . i want to keep the old patina
the original exterior colour is vintage Burgundy . one day i'll possibly repaint the car in the right colour. the current one is not that far btw, so i can live with it

Hi Aldo, good to see another 6 cyl fastback owner, I have one
and know of a few others that do, many convert to a V8 so its
good to see 6 cyl fastback owners stay with the original drivetrain.

actually i was looking for a V8 but i'm happy now with my 6 cyl fastback. In my situation is what i really need . i need a daily driver for next spring summer and the 6 cyl is perfect. i don't need power on this car because i already have a 69 Corvette 427 L88 clone with 500hp, 4.11 rear end and terrible gas mileage. the six mustang is just the opposite...i like it
after reading this article  ( http://www.justmustangs.com.au/html/review/mustang-6cycl.htm  )  i'm even more convinced of the six . 300lbs less than a v8 , less unsprung weight on suspensions-axle, better F/R weight balance. It seems to be really a clever car if power is not your first target

Those are without a doubt, The nicest 4-lug wheels that I have ever seen. They remind me of what the used to put on Datsun B210's and Datsun 240Z's for racing...back in 70's...

Very nice car!
