Topic: wood grain

I'm getting ready to assemble the interior in my1966 convertible and I'm collecting the last few parts.  The console that I'm putting in still needs
to have the wood grain applied to match the instrument cluster and the glove box door.  I have not been able to find wood grain that is
an acceptable match to the glove box or instrument cluster.  I've checked most of the catalog parts houses and most seem to carry the
Re-Pops brand of wood grain appliques, but the the color does not seem to match very well.  I've been thinking about making my own from
vinyl veneers but still am not able to find a good match. Anyone have any experience with locating the correct appliques or material to make
their own pieces? Anyone know what the original color that Ford called this wood grain was?

Sorry no specific information about the wood grain but did want to mention that the wood grain was applied over a thin layer of aluminum on the ones I've pealed a part

I have several console trim plates and all have the aluminum strip that Jeff talked about. I picked the "best" and used it on my console. If you need the strips (long panel, shifter, ash tray and door) you can find them on e-bay under "66 Ford Mustang console". I've tried to salvage a couple and it's difficult, they bend and don't sit flat. As to the color match, you might just want to bite the bullet and get a complete new set and do everything. At least then you will have a match.

Check with Jeff Yergovich at R+A Motorsports 816 246 9094 . He was working on the console issue at one point . He had shared with me that he trying to source the correct woodgrain. I don't know how far he got . He may have a good alternitive by now. I havn't talked to him about that particular subject recently .Tell him I said to call and check.

Guys, I got my console woodgrain trim from Tony Ascue of Tony's Auto Classics, and it fits perfectly and is a well made product applied to aluminum backing......some pieces could use a better adheasive but it all does fit really well, and I am very satisfied with it!
