69/70 Backup Lights

Aside from the evolution of the lenses, which is fairly well documented, were the 1969 and 1970 backup light housings basically identical? And is the 1142 bulb correct for both (which implies neither year was designed to take an1156 bulb)? There seems to be a lot of contradictory information on the web, even among vendors, and it's got me confused.

According to the ' 1969 Car Shop Manual ' chart on pg. 15-06-15;  Mustangs use the 1142 bulb.  All the other car lines Montego, Falcon, Fairlane and Cougar  take the 1156.  Brian

Thanks for your reply Brian. I'm aware that some vehicles used the 1142 bulb and others used the 1156; I'm interested in the difference (if any) between the 1969 and 1970 Mustangs. It's unclear (at least to me) whether or not they were identical.

No difference other than lenses.
Differences between assembly line and service part wiring pigtail though.
Thicker wiring on assembly line type with part number marked in white on the wire, unlike slightly thinner service type with part number on a tag.
I don't know if the thicker wiring is heavier gauge or just thicker jacket than the service type.
I've seen NOS service sets go for as high as $600 on ePay, and I just wonder why?
Keep the factory ones.

Thanks, that makes sense. I know the 69's took the 1142 but I've not been up close and personal with an original 1970 housing.

If NOS backup lights that have wiring without the part numbers stamped on the wires and with the part number tag are used on a concours trailered car, would points be expected to be deducted?

I would expect the answer would be yes since they do not look like the originals.

Now the details ;)
Since Concours trailered rules state that  judges should not look for engineering numbers ( Judges are not to deduct for the lack of them)  if the owner simply removed the paper/plastic tag then there should be no deduction.

Well - as mentioned - the judges should not be looking for the number in that class. Of course many would keep looking for a set of original wires and simply transfer them (steps spelled out in a certain 69 Shelby thread)  to the other housings ;)
