Topic: Fuel Line Bracket Clip -

A question arose from the last couple of local car shows as to the correct finish of the clip for the 1966 289CID engine fuel line bracket, clear zinc or natural. The aftermarket clip is sold as clear zinc but several people state it should be natural. The bracket is painted engine blue.
And as long as we are at it, what are the finishes for the 1964 and 1965 versions?

Jim, the 65 style is plated the silver and the different 66 style is black oxide or gun blued. The bracket is block color (black,blue) both years.

The bracket would have been on the engine when it was painted as a unit. The clip/retainer and attaching hardware was added later - so no paint on those. Will leave the finish on the last two items to someone that know 64 1/2 details better than I

Thanks Bob, I not only get to keep my correct finished clip but "somebody" owes me a beer. I maintained that the clip was spring steel and should be black oxide (dark finished) as zinc plating could cause the clip to break from the effects of hydrogen embrittlement.
As to the 65 and 64 1/2 hardware, the 65 Engine Assembly Manual (AM0155 pg2 & 3) shows both screws as clear zinc. The clips can't be determined without their source documents.
What this also means is that the parts houses have been selling the incorrect part for 1966 (hint NPD, Virginia Classic, etc).

I have not had time to check the forum lately, but I just talked to Jim on the phone.

I just wanted to point out that there is apparently more than one manufacturer of this gas line bracket.  The one that we carry and have carried for a long time, has a bare finish, spring steel clip.  As far as I can determine, this is exactly like the original.  It is not zinc plated, regular steel.

Our part number is ER-331.  You will note that the L-bracket comes bare and needs to be painted blue engine color.
