Radio Restore
« on: August 31, 2012, 12:51:39 AM »
Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a radio refurbisher?

I have an old one that came with my convertible so I don't even know if it works or not but it does need cleaning up, so I might as well give it the whole make over.

I'm down under so I will have to post it so I guess I'd prefer around the California area to minimise postage cost around the States.

Any feedback would be greately appreciated.

Cheers
Dom

I know a guy here in the PHoenix Metro area that fixed my radio out of my 65 Mustang.  Also redid my dad's 8 track / radio out of his 79 corvette and did my friend's Radio and 8 track player out of a 69 GTO.  Very reasonable and does great work.  I can give you his contact information if you wish.  He can convert it to FM if you want and add an aux jack if you want to connect an mp3 player.

Here's the person I used to restore my original 66 AM/FM radio:

He does not do plating though (chrome for face or tin for case).

I tried to find my invoice but I can't locate it. I think the work was around $300. He did repairs and cleaned the radio to get it fully functional, using period correct parts when needed. This was a mechanical, not really a restoration since I did not get the face plate rechromed or the glass for the front replaced (is a bit marred). I would still like to get both of these done somewhere. I didn't have the outer housing replatted since my date code was showing and I wanted to keep it intact (see pictures). Hope this helps.
