68 GT Fastback LS Door
« on: August 27, 2012, 05:52:36 PM »
Need original restoreable drivers door for 68 GT Fastback. How do I identify a used factory door from a used reproduction door? Will a coupe/convertible door work on a Fastback?

Yes all the doors (conv, coupe, fastback) are all the same except for the main window

Never purchased a reproduction door will leave that one to others :)

well for one thing a repro won't have a date code. and on most i have seen the graining is not as pronounced as the originals.

Wasn't there a thread on the 65-66 repo doors and the grain being reversed?   Not sure if that is the case for the 67 or 68 versions but worth a check

Where would the most likely location of the date code be on the door?

In 65/66, the date code was on the inside lip where the door glass goes up and down: about halfway along the door.  You can only see it when all of the door glass and fuzzies are removed.

Believe its mid door - covered by the door panel (inner skin of the completed door)

On my 68's, as noted by Jeff, mid section on the door on the raised web forward of the main opening... usually at a really odd angle..! :-\

Usually at least 2 date stamps, one for the outer skin and then one for the inner structure.
