I see 3 "correct" springs in various references:

gold/pink  - C5ZZ-5310-AC - 1760 load, 8 3/4 coils, .650 dia, 14 7/8" free length
green/yellow -   - C5ZZ-5310-AD - 1820 load, 9 coils, .635, dia 15 3/4" free length
gold yellow -   - C5ZZ-5310-AD - 1740 load, 9 coils, .635, dia 15 1/2" free length

?  No AC but thinking of adding it (OEM style) and wondering if this changes the spring.

Looking at the 68 version there were changes through the year for front springs (Prior to 12/11 and after 12/11) Didn't look at the later versions to see if they kept this data or simply updated ti with what was available at the time

The springs between a 68 390 4 speed non AC and 68 390 4 speed AC hardtop (guessing that your car had PS - another variable in the picture) would have been different when new. All the springs for every application for your type of car changed from early to late application and both early/late change when adding AC to a PS equipped car.


Interesting that by April (the date of the printing on the catalog I have) they were still carrying listings for the 427 Mustang but only as a post 12/11 built vehicle - sorry off topic .

C7ZZ-5310-A 
rated-1790
coils- 9 1/2
dia- .61
free length- 16 7/8"

As you can see the later books simply listed a similar available coil spring rather than what was original

While restoring my 68 390 "S" CSGT with PDB, 4-speed and PS (no AC) w the GT option I found coils with the green and yellow stripes. The car had sat for over 30 years (since 1978) with no engine (at my place) and unmolested so I assume these were the correct springs.
